Malacca (150 kilometers southeast of Kuala Lumpur, takes about two hours by road from Kuala Lumpur) is one of the most delightful places in Southeast Asia. Strategically located on the Malacca Straits, a vital waterway between India, the Spice Islands, China and Europe, it was once one of the most important ports in the world. Malacca (Melaka) was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
